Wye Valley Woodside Centre – SITE PLAN
Main Buildings
The main buildings on site are:
Wood House (A) – This is the main accommodation unit on site sleeping up to 46 in 9 bunkrooms, 7 of which have an ensuite toilet and shower. It has a large dining/activity hall (approx. 11m x 9m) with a balcony, a fully equipped commercial standard kitchen, a utility room/boot room and male and female washrooms. There is an open sided gallery which provides covered space for outdoor activities in poor weather. The entire building is wheelchair accessible with a platform lift on the stairs between the floors.
White House (B) – This is the original main accommodation building on the site, currently not in use and awaiting refurbishment.
Toilets and showers at the rear of this building are available to campsite users.
Coach House (C) – site Warden’s Cottage.
Chapel of Jesus the Merciful (D) – This private Chapel belonging to the Polish Catholic Mission is located adjacent to the drive leading onto the site and may be used for prayer and worship. Keys are available from the Warden on request.
Camping Fields
We have Five different sized camping sites on level terraces. All camp sites have a water standpipe. Two of the campsites have field kitchens.
Camp fire circle
The camp fire circle is located on the terrace below the front of the White House. Please speak to the Warden about fuel for the fire.
Woodland
Users may access the woodland on site and the adjacent private woods to the north of the site beyond the Chapel. Fallen wood may be collected for fuel. No cutting of standing timber is allowed.
Further to the north the St. Briavels Nature Reserve can be reached by a footpath.
The woodland adjacent to the southern boundary of the site belongs to Natural England and may be accessed and used for activities compliant with Natural England regulations.
There are several footpaths/bridleways close to site including the Offa’s Dyke Path National Trail. A public footpath crosses the southern part of the site.
In the Wye Valley and Forest of Dean
The Forest of Dean and Wye Valley is home to a great range of attractions - some man-made and some completely natural. WOOD HOUSE
Wood House is a purpose designed accommodation unit which was completed in the spring of 2019. Built to a high standard of thermal efficiency it has underfloor heating and solar panels on the roof. On the lower level there are nine bedrooms, seven with an ensuite toilet and shower and two with hand washbasins. The catering and activity facilities are on the upper level connected to the bedrooms by a staircase which incorporates a wheel chair platform lift. Also, on the upper level is an open sided gallery for outdoor activities in wet weather. The entire building is wheelchair accessible.
Adjacent to the gallery, there is a level open area/campsite which users of Wood House can make use of if required.
Sleeping Accommodation
Wood House Lower Level – FLOOR PLAN
The nine bedrooms on the lower level can accommodate 46 persons. The bedrooms have underfloor heating, double bunk beds and personal storage.
The remaining bedrooms all have ensuite toilet and shower and are configured as follows:
Beds are provided with a mattress and a pillow. Users should bring a single fitted sheet, pillow case, sleeping bag and blanket if required. Blankets for bedroom use only are available on request.
Main Hall and Dining Room
Wood House Upper Level – FLOOR PLAN
At the heart of the building is the Main Hall. 11m x 9m in size this serves as a multipurpose activity / meeting / games room and doubles up as a dining room which can seat up to 100 persons. At the side of the hall is a storage room where the tables and chairs and crockery are stowed. At the front of the hall, large sliding glass doors open out to a balcony with magnificent views across the valley.
Kitchen
Fully equipped commercial standard kitchen consisting of:
Utility / Boot Room
Next to the stairway is the Utility/Boot room, which has coat hooks and benches and is also equipped with a double sink, washing machine and tumble dryer.
Washrooms
Off the main entrance lobby are washrooms: male (2 toilets and 2 showers) and female (3 toilets and 3 showers), which can also be accessed from outside. There is a separate wheelchair accessible toilet.
The Gallery
A large outdoor covered area suitable for a wide range of activities. Can be booked by Campsite users by arrangement with the Warden.
Accommodation Options
Wood House is available for hire all year round on a weekly, weekend (minimum 2 nights) and daily basis during the week. Wood House can also be hired for day use on weekdays.
It is also possible to hire individual bunkrooms in less busy periods.
Catering
In general, our accommodation is hired on a self-catering basis. However, we may be able to arrange limited catering if required. Please provide requirements on the Online Enquiry Form.
WHITE HOUSE
This iconic building, which is a landmark in this part of the Wye Valley, was formerly the main accommodation building on the site. It is currently awaiting renovation and unavailable for use.
CAMPING FIELDS
Our camping sites are laid out on several terraces on the site. Each site has its own water supply.
Campers washroom facilities
Campers washroom facilities and pot wash are located at the rear of the White House.
